PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCES PROGRAM
VISION
The Petroleum Geosciences Program at The Faculty of Science Cairo University will provide high-quality education in geology and geophysics to prepare students for successful and socially and ethically responsible professional careers and to fill the geological and geophysical education needs of oil and petroleum industry.

PROGRAM OUTLINE
Geosciences is at the heart of all modern natural resource industries, not only in their exploration phase, but also in their development and management practices. This program provides students with a coherent understanding of the areas of science that relate to the Earth’s petroleum resources including their nature, origin, distribution, discovery and exploitation. Students gain the ability to communicate with a diverse array of people and will have an understanding of the geological and technological complexity of the petroleum systems with which they are working.

The mission of the Petroleum Geosciences Program at The Faculty of Science is to provide a high-quality education in petroleum geology and geophysics and to produce graduates for successful and socially and ethically responsible careers in the petroleum industry that meet or exceed the needs and expectations of oil industry.

PROGRAM GOALS:
Program Goals derive from the Educational Mission and are statements of what students are expected to accomplish at the end of this program. Petroleum Geoscience Program will prepare graduates to:
1. Apply geological and geophysical knowledge and skills to recognize exploration, development, and production problems and design technically, economically, and environmentally sound solutions to find and maximize the value of petroleum resources;
2. Be practical, employable and qualified petroleum Scientists that can
successfully pursue careers in the oil and gas production and services
industries or other similar pursuits.
3. Understand the fundamental principles of Geology and Geophysics behind the technology of petroleum science, in order to keep their
education from becoming outdated and to give them the capability of
self-instruction.
4. Continue personal and professional growth through self education;
5. Serve society by encouraging the ideals of ethical behavior,
professionalism, and environmentally responsible use of natural
resources.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
Upon completion, graduates of Petroleum Geosciences Program will be able to do the following:
1. Apply geological and geophysical knowledge and skills to recognize exploration, development, and production problems and design technically, economically, and environmentally sound solutions to find and maximize the value of petroleum resources;
2. Formulate solutions to geoscience problems involving design of geophysical surveys, acquisition and processing of geophysical data, and making reasonable geological interpretations from results;
3. Design and construct 3-dimensional Earth models to solve many types of problems from appropriate geological, petrophysical, and geophysical data;
4. Function effectively on multi-disciplinary teams; including in leadership roles
5. Demonstrate an awareness of social, ethical, and professional responsibilities in the exploitation of petroleum resources and an awareness of major regional and global social and environmental issues;
6. Demonstrate an ability to communicate in oral and written forms in English appropriate to the petroleum industry;
7. Demonstrate recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continual self education.
